May Yoga Report

This blog is all about my journey of transitioning from a beginner yogi to an advanced yogi. And enjoying the journey!

Each month I am going to record some things about my journey. I’m going to do these posts for a couple of reasons; I want to keep a record of how I am progressing with my yoga, it will hold me accountable, and it gives you a very good look at what I am doing and how I am doing it.

Below you will find out the following things about the past month: goal poses that I am working on, what my home practice looked like, the yoga classes I attended, total time dedicated to fitness, and my healthy habit for the month.

Believe in yourself and work hard. You can do anything you put your mind to!

Goal Poses: These are the poses that I am currently working on.

Crow: I started the month with being able to hold it for about 10-15, some of the time.  I hope to be able to hold it for 30 seconds. I didn’t practice crow very much this month. Therefore, I didn’t improve how long I can hold it, I actually got worse. I’ll try to be more dedicated to it next month.

Headstand: I practice my headstand on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I hope to be able to do a pencil headstand in the middle of the room for 1 minute. This month I definitely improved my headstand. I am able to hold it in a tucked position for about 30 seconds. I am only able to do this in front of a wall, though. Even though I don’t touch the wall, the sense of security I get from knowing it’s there really helps. Next month, I will work on bringing my legs up into a pencil position.

Shoulder Stand (Acro pose):  (Want to learn more about Acro? Click here.) My husband and I dropped the ball on this one. We didn’t get a chance to go to any Acro classes (they are all so far away). We also didn’t practice on our own.

Home Practice: This is what I am currently doing as my home practice.

My home practice this month was much better. I did two sun salutations every morning! It only takes me two minutes, but it still feels really good to start my day this way.

Total time spent on home practice: 62 minutes

Total time dedicated to fitness:

Total time in yoga classes this month: 11.5 hours

Total time doing Acro this month: 0 hours

Total time doing other exercises: 13 hours

Total time of home practice: 1 hour (morning) and 2 hours (headstands)

Total time exercising: 24.5 hours

I did much better this month of fitting in other types of exercise and having a regular morning routine. But, I didn’t do quite as much yoga and didn’t get in any Acro Yoga. Next month, I hope to keep up my morning routine yoga and other exercising but increase my yoga practice time and Acro Yoga back to where it was in April.

Healthy Habit:

Each month I will focus on a healthy habit. If I feel like it is second nature to me by the end of the month I will add in a new habit the next month. If I ever feel like I get am not doing so well with a past habit I will make it my monthly focus again.

This month I focused on drinking enough water. My goal was to drink half my body weight in ounces. I had to use a lot of little tricks to accomplish this, but I did it!

I also still did a good job of eating clean and using portion control, my goal from April.

I feel like I have a good handle on these two habits, so next month I am going to add in an evening routine to my days.
