December Yoga Report

Each month I record some things about my journey. I do these posts for a couple of reasons; I want to keep a record of how I am progressing with my yoga, it will hold me accountable, and it gives you a very good look at what I am doing and how I am doing it.

Below you will find out the following things about the past month: goal poses that I am working on, what my home practice looked like, the yoga classes I attended, total time dedicated to fitness, and my healthy habit for the month.

Read this yoga report to find out what this girl did over the entire month to improve her yoga practice.

This month my mantra was, “Every day is a gift.” It is a great reminder for me that even though things may seem difficult that day, that every day truly is a gift and meant to be enjoyed. After repeating this to myself a few times, my mode always improves.

December Yoga Report

Goal Poses: These are the poses that I am currently working on.

Splits: I am continuing to work on my splits every day. I hold each side for 5 minutes. A block is used to support my weight so that I can relax in the pose. This month I was able to put the block down to a lower height. I still have a long ways to go though! I have also started working on my middle splits, but I have a lot of work that I need to do for this pose!

Headstand: My headstand made huge improvements this month. I am getting really comfortable piking up (piking down is another story), I am getting close to not needing the wall, and just today I started to play around with the position of my legs while in headstand. Every time I do this pose I feel happy. I have worked on it a lot to get to the point that I am at and it makes me feel accomplished each time I do one.

Self-Practice: This is what I am currently doing as my home practice.

My self-practice is becoming much more regular. It is still a challenge for me to roll out my mat and do yoga by myself, but I am getting better at doing it anyway. I’m hoping over time that it will get easier.

I spent a lot more time doing a self-practice this month. My goal is now to do yoga every day and to have most days be a self-practice. For some reason, doing yoga by myself is harder. I have a hard time staying committed to the practice. But, it has already started getting easier and I know that if I keep at it, it will become second nature for me. This month I didn’t do any cardio besides some walking, even though it was my healthy habit goal. Next month I would really like to change that.

Healthy Habit:

My goal for December was to run or swim once a week. How did I do? I failed. I did zero running or swimming this past month. Which means I will try again next month! So, my goal for January is run or swim once a week. Hopefully, I will do a better job at it!
